Grace isn’t one of the easiest qualities to welcome into our lives when we live in such a fast-moving society. December is a month which can be a busy time for many of us. Work can get busier this time of the year, we might find ourselves pushed harder working towards deadlines before the end of year, finding time for extra social gatherings and often dealing with the stress of Christmas with all the extra preparations and arrangements. This can often make us feel “frazzled”, fatigued and run down, leading to feeling ill.
Yoga is a practice where we get to move our bodies with grace, slow down and find our inner calmness. Whilst we can’t always avoid the busyness of life, we can take the opportunity to find softness in movement and thought when we step onto our yoga mat. Our practice is a chance to reconnect and avoid getting caught up in the stress of life.
Practicing yoga we can find the balance between strength and softness, between push and pull and holding on and letting go. Even in the poses that we find the most challenging, there is room for grace and stillness. We can look for softness not only in our movements but by finding it through our breath and in our ability to focus mentally.
Paying deep attention to our movements allows us to move with intention, ease and grace. Meeting ourselves where we are right now allows us to appreciate our bodies wonderful way of moving.
