December can be a very busy time for many of us with extra activities being planned and taking place or our workload being increased as we move towards the end of the year.
Naturally when the weather is colder and the mornings and nights are darker we may find we have less energy and want to hibernate! Our yoga in December is a good chance to find our connection back with our body, free up the joints and move our body in all the wonderful ways we are able. In the hour we come to class it really is time for ourselves to re-balance the mind, body and the soul.
Yoga to Nurture and Nourish
Week 1 - Nourish Your Body
Different poses can help our digestive system which can get sluggish through our busier months. Stress can often cause havoc to our digestive systems. Gentle stretching and twisting through yoga poses helps to releases tight muscles, improves muscle tone, and stimulates our digestive organs.
Week 2 - Nourish Your Nervous System
Many of us have an over-active sympathetic nervous system — living in a near continual state of flight or fight. This may increase the heart rate, blood pressure, cortisol levels, and muscle tension. We can use yoga practices to balance our nervous system which helps to lower heart rate, blood pressure, cortisol and blood sugar levels and muscle tension.
Week 3 - Ground and Nurture
Grounding often refers to more than a state of being in a pose. It can refer to an overall state of being. Our busy stressful schedules often require us to do things quickly and take on more than one task. This can leave us feeling imbalanced, scattered and confused. With our yoga we can ground ourselves by focussing on connecting our body with the earth and grounding into the earth.
